For all of us that have the privilege of living in beautiful and diverse Monterey County, we feel inspired to support our community. As a citizen of this community and a student at Stevenson Upper School, I am committed to raising awareness through education on the pertinent issues affecting Monterey County.
Most recently, the coronavirus pandemic has significantly impacted our lives and brought to light the importance of supporting our community through organizations that help the most vulnerable and those most susceptible to the socioeconomic impacts of this crisis.
A student-initiated and led nonprofit, the HELP Monterey County (HMC) Foundation focuses on raising awareness and providing education on prevalent health and social issues facing Monterey County through promoting conscientious leadership and protection for our community, while helping to bridge the gap of education disparity and the lack of access to basic needs.
Currently, computers and technology play an important role in the functioning of our society, as they are being used to continue the pursuit of education via online classes and assignments. However, there are many individuals within our community that do not have access to basic technologies such as computers and Wi-Fi, therefore limiting their attainment of a quality education. In order to address this issue, the HMC Foundation plans on scheduling events like technology and electronic device drives to help mitigate the negative impacts of this challenging situation.
